Make a run for the Fence
MAKE A RUN FOR THE FENCE!

I have to admit, I saw it happen to others, but never thought I would be the one to do it. How could I?
My job wasn't bad, the bills were paid and life was okay. BUT, I wasn't happy. There were too many
compromises in my life. My commute was 2 and a half hours and I worked 12 + hours a day and
sometimes 7 days a week. Was this really the lifestyle I wanted? My children were growing up and it
seemed like the only thing I ever got to see were the milestones in their lives, not the little things, the
things that were important to them and not some scheduled event. My wife didn't marry a job,
although she did enjoy the money, but she told me one night, that she just wanted me. I knew I had to
make a change.

FIRST THE RESEARCH, THE WORK, THE FAILURES

I began my search and tried all kinds of things, many of which aren't worth mentioning. I started
searching for financial investment opportunities like Stocks, Foreign Exchange (FOREX), High interest
Foreign Banking, and I can't tell you how many more. Most lost money and the few that made
anything at all would not have covered conversion costs for short term payouts. I tried real estate
investment pools. Well, unless you are isolated in the desert somewhere, you already know how that
went.

Then I turned my attention to the internet. I tried affiliate marketing, I even made some of my own e-
products. It just seemed to take every waking minute and I still lost money. Adwords campaigns,
banner exchange, mailing lists, purchasing traffic, sponsored links, even eBay. After nearly 6 months
of effort, I managed to generate about $5,000 in income in a single month, but I spent nearly $4,800.
Okay, lets see. 40+ hours a week on the internet after my already time consuming job and $4,800 in
order to generate $200 profit. Not exactly a lifestyle changer. I know if I had worked at it longer I
could have done much better, but the money going out the door was just too risky. If a competitor had
stepped in, my costs would have remained the same but my sales could have plummeted. That was just
too dangerous and too costly. Some people, obviously have that talent, but it wasn't me.

PS. There is one other thing I discovered about affiliate marketing and I've seen it many times over the
years: It's called “cycling”. Every 2-3 years a major change suddenly tosses the entire AF industry on
its ears and even network marketing millionaires have to rebuild their empire by starting over and
coming up with new techniques and gimmicks. Don't get caught in one!

So the next step was to look into owning my own brick and mortar business. It didn't take long to
figure out how expensive and difficult that would be. Financially not feasible, even with money in the
bank. Between catastrophic hours, low initial profits and substantial capital outlay, I would be working
mostly for the bank and the business for at least 5-7 years and a franchise would take much longer.

Finally, I looked into home based businesses. This is where I struck gold, but not at first. I originally
looked into MLMs because of the residual income. That was very enticing, but after doing some
serious research, I found that with nearly all MLMs, there is a phenomena called “money density
dropoff”. To make a long story short, think about an upside down tornado. In an MLM as money
moves up it becomes very dense and this density begins to restrict the overall flow. That restriction
means that the widest end of the funnel (which is where you will be) the slower money will move.
Have you ever seen a river that goes from wide to narrow? This serene, slow moving river get almost
violently fast as it narrows and can only move so much water before it goes out of control. That is the
effect that occurs in MLMs and since you are in the wide area, money flows very slowly and you never

get rich. It's a social effect, not a technical effect. The “Harvey Study” in 2000 indicated that no
“joining members” had ever made six figures consistently in MLMs. That study astounded me
considering all the hype.

THE EPIPHANY

Then I stumbled across direct sales home businesses. Sales, I thought, hmm, I'm a computer geek, not a
salesperson. I get sweaty just thinking of talking to people on the phone. And then my wife said, “All
of our sales friends are well off”. We knew some very wealthy people. Those people, basically, fell
into 2 categories, the first was Real Estate and the second was sales. This is the interesting part. The
Real Estate friends were definitely a margin of wealth above the salespeople, but before they enjoyed
their Real Estate life, nearly half were salespeople, which gave them the extra capital to invest into
Real Estate. That set me back a bit because that meant that nearly 75% of the wealthy people we knew
were or are salespeople. How many computer engineers, office managers, nurses, paramedics, etc do
you know are wealthy? All those years of college, and sure, they can pay well, but never enough to be
considered wealthy. My next door neighbor was an “out of work” business project manager. He
needed to support his family and he couldn't get employment in his 16 year career, so he got a job as a
sales rep for one of his old vendors. In his first year he exceeded his old income by $130,000 and,
according to him, it was easier and much less stressful than his old job once he became confident in it.

THE SOLUTION

So, where did that leave me? Simple, a home based direct sales business from a reputable company
with a well organized program and a solid history. So did I find one? You bet! There were actually
several very good companies. They all had pros and cons but like my Real Estate friends, one stood a
margin above the others. A unique hybrid Franchise / Network Marketing Company. The business was
ridiculously simple and well thought out. It has training, support and an impressive compensation plan,
but I think the best thing it has going was when I looked at it, I knew I could do it. Now, remember, I
said simple, not easy. Like any real business, it does require effort, commitment, planning and
financial investment, but what in life that's worth it doesn't? This is MY business and it will succeed
only on my efforts and it WILL succeed. It means doing things I've never done and learning things I've
never known, but when I'm spending those weeks skiing on the slopes and the only work I have is a
couple of hours on the phone and the rest of the day skiing with the family, I'll know I made the right
decision. Will you? HTTP://www.path2freedom.net

NOT CONVINCED?

So, now I'm running for the fence and this time I'm succeeding. I'm escaping this rat race and I invite
you to follow me. I put my 20 + years into working for others and I was rewarded with a pin, a watch
and a “sorry to see you go”. I'm in my 40s! I can't retire!

I've done years of searching, researching, trying and failing, so if you want to bypass all the effort I put
in, then just open your mind and step outside the box. This business can work for anybody that just
puts honest effort in to it. When you first got your job, did you fake it or give it all you had? (hopefully
you gave it all you had) This is a chance to do just that again but this time the benefit is yours.

“But, you're new to this business. How can you possibly say it works?” Yes, I am new and when I
joined it, surely, was a “Leap of Faith”. Well, not so much. The research proved that the business was

well founded, reputable and very doable. The faith was in myself. Being confident in who I am and
what I could accomplish. That “Leap of Faith” turned out to be well founded. I just watched a man no
different than me enjoy his first $55,000 month! It was only the 3rd month running his new business. If
he can do it, I can do it and if I can do it, YOU can do it! That shows the strength of the training and
architecture of this business.
